About Us

The Porthleven Neighbourhood Plan (PNP) is a steering group of local volunteers (Porthleveners, landowners, businesses, and key stakeholders) who have gathered together to form a neighbourhood plan. The purpose of the PNP is to aid Local People to shape the future development of Porthleven for the benefit of local people in an inclusive and democratic scheme.

Summary

\r\n

“The PNP Steering Group are all working very hard and are a credit to our community and council. Work on the plan is progressing well with plans to engage the community at many levels. We are planning to collect lots of information, both existing and new, which is important to feed into the plan. This will allow us to create the evidence base. We are hoping to draw on this information through the summer and then start to run some policy workshops with the group to help us understand what it means for Porthleven. This in turn may potentially lead to some emerging policy regards the Porthleven Neighbourhood Plan.”

Area of Designation

\r\nPorthleven Designation Decision Notice\r\n

The area of designation is the parish boundary of Porthleven CP not including Helston CP. This is the left hand section of the white area on the map below. From the Field to the North of Methleigh Lane along the coast to mid way along the bar; then sail up the centre of the pool until the main body of water ends, then head North cutting up through Penrose woods to just South of Hill Top cross roads…. Hope that makes sense.

First Meeting for the Porthleven Neighbourhood Plan

\r\n

On the 17th May 2014, a presentation was given introducing the Porthleven Neighbourhood Plan (PNP) identifying the possible need for Porthleven to have a neighbourhood plan and evaluate the communities interest in forming a group to guide the community throughout the process to finish with a neighbourhood plan which is community driven and focused to safeguard the past while securing the future. Below is a downloadable version of the presentation.

The meeting consisted of interested residents, landowners, groups and organisations in Porthleven. The turnout was good and had a good and balanced representations from the groups invited. The aim of the meeting was to establish if a Neighbourhood Plan was supported, and therefore could be progressed.

\r\n

The reason why a Neighbourhood Plan is so important for Porthleven is because there is the opportunity to create a positive vision for the future of Porthleven. The plan will help the community to influence the extent of development within Porthleven. It cannot stop development, but it can ensure growth and development are built-in the right places first. Without a Neighbourhood Plan, it could see Porthleven at a disadvantage due to the Governments recent relaxation of planning laws which can seen to be in favour of developers. Though, no doubt developers will see this as ending a lot of bureaucracy.

\r\n

The presentation on the NP was delivered by the Chairman of the NP working party Cllr Alan Jorgensen. In his presentation is highlighted the benefits of Porthleven having a plan. There was also the chance for all those gathered to ask questions. The final act of the meeting was to decide if Porthleven needed a plan. The vote to proceed with the plan was unanimous.
